2011 Florida Family Vacation

Grammom Barb organized another wonderful family gathering - this time in her favorite part of the world - Hammock Beach, FL! She prepared meals; rented a great house; bought car seats; organized activities; and wanted all to be happy. We decided that 4th of July holiday was the ideal timing due to activities at HB resort, as well as it was good timing for vacations - plus it turned out to be cooler in FL than it was in VA!
Arrivals from Beantown, NoVA and VB all went off without too many hassles and shortly thereafter, our family was enjoying the sun & pool(s) at HB. Krista, Darryl, Alec, Scott, Cyndy, 'Em', Great-Grammom K, Lynn, Anthony, Arianna & Marina all joined to make our team 27 family members strong!
The rental house was a 'hit' with all, especially since it had not only an elevator, but also a pool!! I am convinced the kiddos would have been happy just staying in that pool all seven days, 24/7...
An abridged edition of the week's activities included:
  • HB's beach was great - no more rocks in the ocean - great sand, warm water, decent waves for body surfing and sufficient room for all
  • HB's pool area was a nice complement to the beach, especially for the older kiddos who enjoyed the slide and lazy river
  • An evening dinner cruise on the Sundancer was very special - beautiful weather; most of the boat was 'us'; having most of our team on the bow of the yacht enjoying each other and the scenic water & foliage, a pretty good meal too
  • According to Pop's memory, every grandchild caught at least one fish - a true victory and wonderful experience. Eman's 'snake' was fun, as was Maddy's competitive fire to catch more than Nicky.
  • Pop and Lauren went to Flagler Pier, watched the surfer dudes, saw several fish caught, got an ice cream cone, followed by enjoying the company of a new friend, who showed us the art of 'shrimping'!
  • Most of our Mommys + Pop did spinning
  • All enjoyed the miniature golf at HB Club
  • Darryl & Nick cooked up an Italian feast for 200, enjoyed by our group of 27! Nick followed up his culinary adventure with a dip in the pool, proving once again that he is the children's best friend!
  • The men 'slayed' the Ocean golf course, followed by most of them getting in temporary trouble.....

Lynnie and her team decided to leave a day early....and it is a good thing since Grammom, Pop and the Psimas family were asked to leave their condo since it had been rented - oh my, we overcame a minor meltdown, teamwork made quick work of our 'transfer' to our new home :-)

All in all, it was a blast and we all look forward to 2013 - maybe Orlando?! Love to all!
